Kathy began her Triathlon experience at age 57 after she took up swimming as a therapy following surgery. A competitive amateur runner at the time (USATF ranked her the 17th fastest woman, all ages, in New Jersey) she needed low-impact activity to stay fit. Without much preparation, she entered the New Jersey Danskin Triathlon, struggled through the swim, raced with her touring bike (complete with pannier racks), and had a great run to finish first in her age group.

She was hooked.
